THE WORKS ON SINKING CREEK

Franklin, Kentucky - Greg Blewett, Owner

Greg became interested in working with his hands from an early age, often making a box or table for his friends or family. He renewed his interest in woodworking when he started teaching Construction Technology at Warren County Area technology Center in 2006. After spending several years doing construction wood work, he decided that he wanted to try his hand at something more “hands on.” And after a few months of tinkering with various materials and techniques, carving wooden spoons became a hobby. As friends and neighbors commented on the beauty of his work and expressed interest in wanting more of his spoons, “The Works on Sinking Creek” was born.

We offer unique, hand carved wooden spoons, spatulas and utensils created with care using reclaimed timber from Simpson County, Kentucky. Spoon blanks (very crude spoon shape) are cut from wood milled on our farm. The blanks are rough cut with a band saw then each piece is hand carved into a spoon. Each spoon receives multiple levels of machine sanding, followed by hand sanding. Each product is then finished with a food safe, FDA compliant, butcher block oil.

Because each piece is carved based on the character of the wood, no two pieces are alike. Finished with care to last a life time; with proper handling they can be passed down through generations.
